This was a defensive slugfest that was much closer than the score but issues at the end doomed me. Lag was bad most of the game with both players not being able to get rid of ball under pressure and especially the end of the game when the last 2:30 was almost unplayable.
OFFENSE
I had his offense bottled up most of the game. This game was decided by two plays:
One a fluke angle route pass where his TE caught a ball that should not have been caught. The guy wasn't even looking, was covered like white on rice, and still caught the ball. The other a run at the end where his QB turned into the white Barry Sanders and broke tackles like crazy on his way to a 89 yard score.
Ran a lot of full house backfield, 4 WR, 5WR sets. I played mainly man under, 2 deep and it accounted for a lot of coverage sacks. At times he wanted to roll out with his QB, so I put my all world DE in spy and that kept a lid on that. Was a lot of three and outs as he only had 188 yards of total offense and 89 of those came on the one run mentioned earlier. Never really put together a drive as it was my turnovers in my own end that allowed him to score.
DEFENSE
Mostly 3-4 or variant and Nickle. He liked to stay on the LILB as you looked at his formation. Good against the run as always and when you telegraph pass or put yourself in a passing situation he will sit back and pick it off. Got two in this game of bad reads on my part and and a third on a screen pass. Don't bother with them against him. Dude sees it coming and will be in better position to catch the screen than your HB will. Did have some success with the run, just didn't stick with it. That's one to remember for the future. (Although if EA would fix the damn blocking, it would be a lot easier. Having a DE or DT run around a pulling G like he isnt there is getting kind of old.)
When he lines up in nickel, look out for the DB blitz. His DB has 90+ speed and will not give you time to do anything with the ball. Can be exploited with crossing routes at times as he like to play man a lot as well. (You have to though because zone is effed in this years edition). If you can get a speedy receiver lined up inside and take advantage of the route, go for it.
ST
Same stuff here as usual. Punted away from returner, not much on returns when he got them. Kicker made 52 yard FG as well as a 40 yard FG later.
Good game G. As always it was tight for the most part. Look forward to the rematch once I have some talent on the roster rather than just one or two guys.
