USF rolled into a hostile environment to face the #18 Air Force Falcons and nearly came away with the upset. This was a close game that came down to who had the ball last. Difference is that Stew converts a 4th and 2 with less than 2 minutes left to seal up the victory 38-35
OFFENSE
His offense seems pretty simple but hard to stop. He going to run a lot of option and look for out routes mainly. If he comes out in 4 WR 75% of the time its a run. He ran with the WR's split (2 on each side) and out of trips formations. The key here is to put somebody on the HB. If you can stack a LB on the HB and force him to beat someone, you stand a better chance of stopping the run. He likes to run up the middle out of the formations, especially if you leave the middle open.
Passing I didn't see much variance. He will come out in shotgun in either 4 WR or empty. He likes to overload one side of the field by moving a receiver so that there are more WR's than DB's. The guy that comes open is going to run an out or an in, but if you don't have someone over there to cover, its 15 yards guaranteed. Even in man coverage, he would find ways get it done. If you play a man 2 deep scheme, its hard because your either putting a LB out there on the WR or its you 4th or 5th best DB out there. Either way your asking for trouble.
His QB is not the most accurate guy. Threw 2 pick-6's one was a backbreaker as it went for an 83 yard TD return near the half. The other was on a throw to the flats that got returned 38 yards in the early 3rd quarter. His HB, LaCoste #37, is his offense. If you stop him, you have a good shot.
DEFENSE
Likes to pressure. A lot. The first few possessions I had on offense I saw a lot of blitzing and it forced me into a 10-0 hole. You can run against him, but you have to be patient. I had a couple runs called for holding which killed a drive, but running the ball can be effective if you don't get predictable.
With all the pressure, his defense can be had in the passing game. I hit a WR screen for a 64 yd TD and a quick out for a 44 yd TD. Mainly looking for short, quick throws was the way to go.
ST
Nothing of note here except that his K hit a 22 yd FG. Otherwise same stuff as usual.
Good game Stew. Look forward to the rematch once I have some talent in Tampa. Good luck the rest of the year.
