2015 Season Preview: Kentucky
The Wildcats finished the 2014 season with a loss to Virginia Tech in their bowl game. Although the Wildcats loss the game, this makes the second straight year that Kentucky has made it a bowl game. Already a great improvement on the team. Kentucky has once again moved around the football conference world and has landed in the Big 12 Conference. They will be competing in the North division, along side fellow Big 12 Newcomer, Notre Dame. If can Kentucky can manage to overcome the Irish, new faces on the defense, and their new conference, look for them to be playing in their first major bowl, in a long time.
Offense
QB Bookie Cobbins looks to start where he left off last year. After the starting QB went down Cobbins, over the starting role and eventually did well enough to be one of the team's impact players. But also look for Jr QB Patrick Towles to get some snaps in during games, as his legs can bring a change of pace to the game.
Dynamic HB Mitchell heads the backfield again this year, and with his awesome hands, look for him to impact the passing game again with his incredible playmaking ability. His backups will bring power for short yardage situations.
The platoon at WR is deep and they get talented every year. At one end you have Randall Collins, who brings the complete package in a WR. He has size (6'4, 224lbs), speed, hands, and he runs great routes. Collins should get most of the catches this year. At the other end of the field you have, the highly touted FR recruit Ben Everett. The coaching staff says that Everett reminds them a lot of Collins when he was FR. Hopefully he will make impact like Collins did his freshman year. The Kentucky TEs
should prove to be reliable this year. With a full year under their belt, their mental mistakes should come to a minimal
With RG Zach West being the only Senior on the line, the Wildcat oline is young. Hopefully their inexperience will not lead to Cobbins taking a beating like Michael Vick.
Defense
While normally defense is the strength of the Wildcats, The Wildcat defense is severely depleted this year. With only 2 returning starters, and 3 seniors, the defense will be rebuilding this year. But if these young players can quickly learn the defense and play at a high level, then the future will be bright for the Wildcats.
Although the Kentucky defensive line is very young, they are talented and have much depth. Noels and Jackson will be leading the charge on the edge. All while Chapman and Graffree lead the plugging up of the middle.
The LB core of the last two years will be sorely missed, as only Henderson is at a point where he can hopefully replace his predecessors. But lack of experience is evident in all of the Lbs.
The strong pass happy teams of the Big 12 all smiled when they learned that Kentucky was coming to their conference. Kentucky's oldest CB is a RS JR who saw very limited playing time through out his career at UK. He still is 5th string on the depth chart. The 2 starting CB will both be true FR. But the true strength of this defense will be both of the safeties, FS Ashely Lowery and SS Jonathan Reed. Both are the most experienced and both are the leaders of this defense. Their role on the defense will be expanded to help compensate for the lack of experience at the LB and CB positions. The success of the defense will be in their hands.
I LOVE BONELESS HOT WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
